POLIT-RHYTHMS PRESENTS: RESISTENZA and SCHALLWELTEN

MUSIC. FILM. POLITICS.

What happens when music becomes political?

Polit-Rhythms connects music, film, history, and politics – in the Schallwelten podcast and the Resistenza symphonic film project.

The world seems to be coming unglued. Old questions are back. They shape our lives, politics, and art.

With our film on Alfred Huber's symphony „Resistenza“, we want to stimulate conversation: How are art and politics connected? What role do film and music play today?

This is about these questions:

  • Do only online clicks matter anymore in art and politics?

  • How can art reach many people and at the same time go deep?

  • Can it be clear to everyone without bowing to the taste of the masses?

„Resistenza invites us to look closely, listen, and talk about these questions.

BLOG ARTICLE ABOUT THE SYMPHONY AND THE PODCAST

The starting point of our symphony was Russia's invasion of Ukraine in February 2022. At the same time, this war is the expression of a more fundamental conflict: authoritarian forces are increasingly calling democratic values into question—not only from the outside, but also within our societies.

Due to current political events, the originally planned landing page for our symphony and film has evolved into a blog that combines artistic work with political and historical analysis.

The political situation in Europe and the USA reinforces our conviction that reason, enlightenment, and open dialogue can counteract growing fear and insecurity. With our blog posts, we want to contribute to a rational and nuanced approach to this insecurity.

RESISTANCE!

MUSIC AND ITS ROLE IN POLITICS

Music is much more than entertainment: it shapes cultures, inspires people, and can be used as a tool of political power. In Italian fascism, National Socialism, and other authoritarian regimes, it was used to spread ideologies and influence people.

Our film project on the „Resistenza“ Symphony explores these connections and asks what role music plays in politics today and what we can learn from history.

Especially in times of crisis, music can serve both as a tool for manipulation and for resistance. From music defamed as „degenerate“ under National Socialism to works against oppression, we illuminate how music reflects the tensions of its time—and what lessons can be learned from it.
